ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2018)–From the midway point on the far turn, it was "game on" in Saturday's Grade II, $200,000 City of Hope Mile (turf) as 6-5 favorite Sharp Samurai and 2-1 second choice Fly to Mars hooked up in a classic battle that resulted in Sharp Samurai winning by a scant nose under Gary Stevens, who had his stick knocked out of his hand outside the sixteenth pole. Trained by Mark Glatt, Sharp Samurai stopped the clock at 1:32.47.

"I had a great trip," said Stevens, who was riding the 4-year-old First Samurai gelding for the ninth consecutive time. "I was just following the leaders and he was going easy. In the stretch, I pulled my stick through with my left hand, used it once, he responded and we were head and head with Flavien (Prat) and Fly to Mars".
